Sustainable Bioplastic Development Using Banana Pseudostems and Algae
In 2025, our laboratory was featured in a special report by Taiwan Television (TTV) News program Science Discovery, showcasing our research in agricultural waste valorization and bioplastic development. The program includes on-site footage and expert interviews explaining how common agricultural byproducts — namely banana pseudostems and algae biomass — are transformed into promising sustainable bioplastic materials.

The research team highlighted that banana pseudostems are abundant agricultural residues. Their effective reutilization not only reduces waste management burdens, but also adds value to agricultural resources. Algae, with its rapid growth and high carbon absorption capacity, serves as an important source for sustainable material development.
This media feature demonstrates how our laboratory integrates environmental engineering, materials science, and circular economy principles to develop environmentally friendly bioplastic technologies, offering practical solutions to reduce conventional plastic use and support sustainable development.
